Performance Management

An online performance management appraisal tool was designed by an external software provider based in the US and was commissioned by head office to be rolled out across the organisation globally. The organisation requested our help to provide a solution that could be rolled out internationally and within budget.

Our solution:

  • As part of the design we spent a day learning the system and devising an interactive programme to enable the system to be taught in a face to face classroom environment.
  • We designed “short burst” 2½-hour programmes for employees and managers training them on how to use the system.
  • Given the global scale of the project we won the work because of our ability to tailor the programme specifically, taking into consideration cultural nuances of the audience
  • Both online live versions and offline versions were designed to incorporate sporadic internet connections in offshore locations.
  • We co-facilitated with local trainers to keep costs down, we incorporated a train the trainer as part of the design process.

The outcomes:

  • Both offshore and onshore delegates were able to access training simultaneously
  • Audiences - both managers and staff - were given tools and techniques to manage their own performance
  • Feedback from the programme demonstrated that 98% of the audience were comfortable with the new system, compared to a 14% confidence test prior to the training

Management Development programme

Another global hydrocarbon organisation asked us to revamp their residential management development workshop, weaving their values and competencies throughout the programme. Their existing programme involved 10 days offsite over a year, and feedback was that it was dry and out-of-date.

Our solution:

  • In a world where taking time out of the office for week-long training programmes is a luxury, we designed a programme that consisted of both onsite and offsite learning over the course of a year. We designed a full programme, comprising of 12 modules that were spread over 6 days over the year. This methodology gave delegates focus both in the training room and an opportunity to put the application of learning into the workplace
  • Each delegate had access to 12 hours of coaching over the year with a qualified coach
  • In-between offsite learning sessions, teams were given a challenge to devise a project that would increase productivity and/or make measurable cost saving to the business of at least 11%
  • We proposed senior management on-boarding workshop to the managers of the delegates. Our aim was to engage and empower the senior managers to familiarise themselves with the programme and to be able to support the delegates with their on-work modules and projects.
  • Senior managers were refreshed on coaching and feedback skills as well as taken through the programme. Senior managers were given a performance objective to coach and mentor their team member through the management development programme.

The outcomes:

  • 350 delegates went through the programme with 98.7% positive feedback on the post-event evaluation
  • We were able to provide consistent trainers over the duration of the project. As a result, our experienced consultants were able to see themes that were emerging within the organisation that we were able to feed-back accordingly. The programme ended with a finale in which teams presented their ideas for organisational efficiencies and increased productivity to senior management
  • Teams pitched in a “Dragons’ Den”-style event and the winning idea was implemented
