Whitehall Government Department

As a result of ever-tighter resources in Whitehall, teams in this government department were struggling with prioritising workloads and looking for senior guidance. The client approached us with a view to delivering a programme which would empower staff and teams to make bold and confident decisions about the work which was most important, analysing their competing priorities, working more effectively and building morale during a difficult resource climate.

It was intended to deliver this programme across the entire organisation and with a limited budget.

 Our solution:

  • We designed a half-day Time Management for Teams programme to be delivered by internal volunteer trainers, trained by us
  • We designed a Train the Trainer session in Time Management for Teams
  • A pool of 50 volunteer trainers was given the opportunity to deliver the programme, trained in intensive Train the Trainer sessions and given long-term skills

 The outcomes:

  • Delegates attending the courses gave positive feedback; they were receptive to a volunteer trainer who had first-hand experience with the changes within the organisation, as opposed to an external consultant
  • The volunteer trainers received feedback, captured on DVD and were given further support on their first training day
  • A further ‘train the trainer’ workshop was delivered to enable the internal regional trainers to train more trainers in "Time Management for Teams" programme
  • The volunteer trainers went on to deliver the workshop across the network, one became a full time trainer
  • The intellectual property rights (“IPR”) to the course were included in the costings and Time Management for Teams is still running today
